Unlawful possession of dynamites lands five fishermen in court

Five people have been charged in a Dar es Salaam court with unlawful possession of 79 packets of dynamite, a substance used for illegal fishing, contrary to the law.

The accused persons, who are all fishermen, appeared in Kisutu Resident Magistrate’s Court last week where their case was presided over by Resident Magistrate Neema Chusi.

The accused are- Simon Katenda (22), Alphonce Omari (50), Hassan Mohamed (37), Said Ibrahim (32) and Omari Wannolela (18). They all reside in the city.

The prosecution alleged that the accused were found in unlawful possession of 79 packets of dynamite on December 16, this year.

The prosecution further told the trial court that the accused committed the crime at 1900pm at the Ferry Fish Market situated within Ilala District.

According to the prosecution version, the explosives were intended to be used for illegal fishing.

All the accused pleaded not guilty, after the prosecution read the charge to them.

Meanwhile, Francis Mbogo (41) who lives at Kiwalani in the city, was arraigned in the same court and before the same magistrate allegedly for stealing 3,681,595 litres of petrol worth 4.9m/-.
