The impact of Trop ical Cyclone Bondo is expected to diminish as wind speed recorded in Dar es Salaam international airport has declined, according to a statement from the Tanzania Meteorological Agency.

The wind was reported to be blowing at 45 km per hour.
The statement predicted that there would be mild rainfalls accompanied by winds in many parts of the country.

But people in the coastal and northern regions of the country were still warned of heavy rains and strong winds.

TMA earlier warned Tanzanians to prepare for the arrival of Tropical Cyclone Bondo that was travelling at 120 km per hour toward the country over the weekend.

As a prelude to the arrival of the tropical cyclone, the coastal regions of Tanzania have been soaked in the past few days by rains, ranging from drizzles to downpours.

Tropical cyclone is the generic term for a non-frontal synoptic low-pressure system over tropical or sub-tropical waters with such organized convections as thunderstorms.

Once a tropical cyclone reaches a wind velocity of at least 17 metres a second or 62 km per hour it is called a tropical storm and is then assigned a name.

If winds reach 33 metres per second or 119 km per hour they are called hurricanes, or typhoons, severe tropical cyclones, or severe cyclonic storms.
