`Magician` in court for obtaining 10m/- by false pretence

An alleged witchdoctor has appeared in Court accused of taking a clients 10m/- cash, after pretending he was going to miraculously multiply the money to 30m/-.
Abdallah Issa (33), who lives at Gongolamboto in Dar es Salaam, appeared in Ilala District Court on Tuesday before District Magistrate Mwanaisha Chande.
Prosecuting in the case, Inspector of police Joshua Ndege alleged that the accused obtained by false pretence and with intent to defraud, a sum of 10m/-, the property of Rose Mataka.
He claimed that the accused, pretending to be a witchdoctor had promised to raise Mataka’s money three times so as to 30m/- through magic.
The accused allegedly committed the offence on 23rd September last year at Tabata Bima in Ilala District.
The accused pleaded not guilty after the charge was read. He was remanded for lack of sureties to bail him out. The case comes up for hearing early next month.
Meanwhile, a City businessman Kijiji Hassan, 25, appeared at the same Court before District Magistrate Mwanaisha Chande accused of robbery with violence.
Inspector of police Joshua Ndege alleged that the accused committed the offence on December 22nd last year at Vingunguti Michongomoni.
It was alleged the accused violently stole a Motorola C116 mobile phone worth 60,000/- from Fikiri Adam.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge. He was remanded in custody for failing to produce sureties. The case will be mentioned on January 10, this year.
