Speaker of the Zanzibar House of Representatives (ZHR) Pandu Ameir Kificho has officially declared former State minister in the Chief Minister`s Office, Amina Salum Ali`s seat in the House vacant.

``I have received a letter of resignation from Amina Salum Ali as a member of the House. Her seat is vacant and I have also informed the Zanzibar Electoral Commission (ZEC),`` Kificho told the House yesterday.

Amina`s resignation followed her appointment as a commissioner in the Africa Union (AU) office in New York four months ago.

Amina, who was also the deputy chairperson of the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) Women`s wing, has already left the country to take up the new position.

A section of the press reported last week that she had unsuccessfully lobbied to have her status in the Zanzibar House of Representatives maintained.

On January 17, this year, the Zanzibar House of Representatives decided that Amina should no longer remain in the House`s payroll.
