President Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete has said that no individual or government leader has the right to take away the life of another person.

He was answering a question related to violation of human rights by some senior government officers during a meeting with Tanzanians living in the United Kingdom. The President is on his way to Scandinavian countries.

`No one is allowed to take the life of another person, whether that person is inside or outside the government.

Whoever does so shall face the wrath of the law, irrespective of the person`s position. The government has already begun taking such steps,` Kikwete said.

Answering a question on the controversial radar purchase, Kikwete said the government had instructed the Prevention of Corruption Bureau to investigate whether there were people who received kickbacks during the during the procurement process.

Responding to another question, the President said that the government was not ready to give new passports to Tanzanians, mostly from Zanzibar, who destroyed their travel documents when they fled the country because of what they described as `a deteriorating political situation` in Zanzibar.

The Tanzania citizens had entered the UK for the purpose of rejecting their Tanzanian nationality.
