IPP Executive Chairman Reginald Mengi has called upon young people to place God ahead of their activities in order to attain success.
Mengi made the call over the weekend when talking to University of Dar es Salaam students during a Motivational Talk Show dubbed `Discover the Secret of Success`.
The event was organised by the International Platform for Young People to discover and develop their potential in collaboration with Familia Newspaper.
Mengi was among the invited guests. Others were Eric James Shigongo and Samweli Isaac Hilary.
`I have placed God ahead of me during the entire time of my activities. If you do that, you will not go astray in you plans. However, you should not just sit back and wait for God’s blessings. You must create confidence and believe in yourself that you can do something that will better your life,` said Mengi.
He said having confidence in life and putting God ahead of him was the major tool that guided him to become one of successful businessmen in the country.
`I was born in a very poor family. I used to share a house with cows, goats and cockroaches but what made me a successful man is that I placed God ahead of me and the confidence I had that I can do and I will do,` he said.
He told the university scholars to avoid fear in their lives.
`Fear when planning business projects is one of the greatest enemies,` he said.
`Some people are born in fear, some die in fear but in businesses fear is a great enemy,` he said, adding that many people failed to achieve their life plans even before they started implementing the projects.
Mengi said that majority of people were so scared and feared to take risks in starting investments, something that hindered them from making profit.
He also reminded UDSM students to be careful in decision making. He said that courage and timely decision making should be a priority in project planning.
Eric Shigongo told the students that majority of people in the country were still living in poverty because they did not understand how to get out of miserable life.
`People are still dying of curable diseases. When you go to rural areas, it is not a surprise to see children suffering like those we see on television from Darfur. This situation must be changed so that every Tanzanian lives a better life,` he said
He said Tanzania had a lot of resources that could make it a rich country but propaganda from western countries and the USA that Tanzania is the poorest country was what made people relax in fighting against poverty.
`I really thank you Mengi for great help you gave to me until I have reached this position today.
You inspired me since I started my businesses by practising what you advised me. You will remain my model because you changed my life.
I promise you that I will follow your example of assisting the poor in this country,` said Shigongo
Samwel Hilary advised the students to have objectives in their lives as a point of focus.
He said they had to be ready to suffer in order to enter the land of milk and honey.
