Members of the business community in the country have been advised to consolidate business ties with their Mozambican counterparts.
The remarks were made in Dar es Salaam yesterday by IPP Executive Chairman Reginald Mengi.
Mengi made the remarks when he hosted the Mozambican envoy in the country, Ambassador Amour Zacarias Kupela, when he paid a visit to the IPP’s chairman.
According to Mengi, the two countries had a historical relationship since colonial era when Tanzania hosted most African liberation movements including Mozambique.
He said unlike in the past when all Mozambican liberation struggles were coordinated in the country, currently the relationship does not reflect the kind of relations which citizens of both countries aspired for, and appealed to the business communities in both countries to act as a catalyst.
“Relationships among African countries have involved only government officials and not the ordinary people. There is need for people of both countries to know each other and this is through inter-countries’ unutilized potentials,” he said, adding that business can be among them.
For his part, Ambassador Kupela appealed for Tanzania`s business community to invest in Mozambique as the country is rich in underutilised business potentials.
`It is now time for Tanzanians to enjoy the fruits of their heartfelt assistance offered to Mozambicans in their struggle for liberation of their country,` said the ambassador.
In a bid to speed up economic growth, ambassador Kupela appealed for Tanzanian media companies to report and interchange what is happening in the countries with their Mozambican counterparts.
`It is high time now we effectively used our home media companies to speed up the economy and escape from western media propaganda, which reports about Africa in a negative way,`he noted.
He also asked for reporters from both countries to pay visits to either country so that when they return they can report positive things about the country they visited.
Responding to Ambassador Kupela`s appeal, the IPP Executive Chairman said that, in collaboration with the government of Mozambique, he will give any necessary support to Tanzanian reporters wishing to visit the Southern African country.
According to Ambassador Kupela, the trip will tentatively be in June, this year, when Mozambique marks its 32nd independence anniversary.
