President Jakaya Kikwete is this morning scheduled to inaugurate the ILO`s Dar es Salaam- based ``Permanent Home`` building for the UN Agency operations in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, and Somalia.
According to an ILO statement made available to The Guardian yesterday, the event will be witnessed by up to 300 invitees from the East Africa sub-region. The modern four-storey edifice was put up at USD15m.
The ILO has hitherto been operating from temporarily hired buildings. The government of Tanganyika signed an agreement with the Geneva -based UN agency in 1962 for establishment of its sub-region office in Dar es Salaam.
According to the agency`s East Africa sub-region Director Jurgen Schwettan, the ILO Director General, Juan Somavia will be represented at the event by a high powered delegation of three officials led by the Executive Director, Maria Ducci.
Other invitees include social partners, governments, employers and workers` representatives from the four countries.
The event takes place in the aftermath of a number of recent developments, including the over 500 delegates Decent Work four-day meeting held last Saturday`s in Addis Ababa Ethiopia, which was also addressed by a number of dignitaries, including President Kikwete.
The meeting touched on a number of salient concerns regarding the realities of decent jobs creation and support of people`s initiatives on entrepreneurship and business mastery empowerment.
