Suspected drug kingpins under court custody

The Kisutu Resident Magistrate Court in Dar es Salaam has ordered two city residents, feared to be notorious drug dealers and dangerous to the community, to execute a bond of 3m/- each for good behaviour.

However, the respondents were unable to execute the bond in question and were remanded in custody.

Yusuph Said and Kambi Juma appeared before Resident Magistrate Hezron Mwankenja.

Inspector of Police Buma Daniel alleged that the duo were drug dealers at Kariakoo in Ilala District.

The prosecutor further told the court that the duo were a dangerous lot and prayed the court to place them under court custody for good behaviour.

The prosecution request was supported by an affidavit of Godfrey Nzowa, an officer with the department of Criminal Investigations of the Anti Drugs Unit.

According to the affidavit, the police force is currently carrying out an intensive operation against drug suspects, including the duo.

There is reliable information that the respondents are notorious illicit drug dealers and dangerous lot to the community who ought to be subjected and put under the control of the court and police in accordance with the law.

The affidavit further stated that the court has power to order the duo to execute a bond and be able to keep peace and be of good behaviour, a request which was granted by the court. The case comes up for mention on May 9, 2007.
