Vice President Dr Ali Mohamed Shein has called upon researchers and other stakeholders to ensure that research outcomes are appropriately disseminated to the people and other end users.

He said disseminating of research outcomes should aim at equipping people with the needed knowledge and technology to fight poverty and other development oriented problems.

Officiating at a meeting on research support in Tanzania in Dar es Salaam yesterday, Dr Shein said that research findings would be of no use if they only ended up in publications and academic journals or be locked in draw and office cabinets.

``The objective of any research is to find ways of solving problems that people face; it is therefore imperative that research findings should reach end users and in this case it is the people,`` he said.

Dr Shein said that a strong link between research and use of research results would help to spur economic growth, poverty reduction and technological transfer.

He however said that there was a need to improve coordination among stakeholders for better research utilization and strengthening the central role of research.

He further explained that Tanzania faced various socio-economic problems in health, education, poverty and other areas which required solutions in order to make advances in development.

```Solutions are required, but which are well informed through research. Research contributes to informed decisions, policies, strategies and efforts of improving living conditions and welfare of the people in rural and urban areas,``the Vice President said.
Dr Shein said that the government appreciated the support made by the Swedish Embassy in various research activities.
``The catalogue of this partnership is one of the most impressive in development cooperation,`` he emphasised.
The one-day workshop to discuss how research in Tanzania could be further strengthened, and take stock of needs and opportunities of the society in the country, was organized by the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA).
The Swedish Ambassador to Tanzania, Torvald Akesson, said that emphasis on research was in line with requirements of the National Strategy for Growth and Poverty Reduction popularly known as MKUKUTA.
