Training of Somalia`s military troops is to start in the country within the next three months.
This was disclosed in Dar es Salaam on Wednesday by the Chief of Defence Forces, General George Waitara, at the opening of a South African Development Community (SADC) Defence Subcommittee meeting.
According to General Waitara, experts were finalising some procedures for the training programme to kick off, adding: ``Somali troops will arrive soon in the country for the training``.
Experts, he said, were currently sorting out essential facilities for the training such as materials, site and training staff.
``We have already acquired a site for the training camp. At the moment, we are putting some final touches to some things before we start the programme in full swing,`` he said.
The programme has been split into phases.
Recently, President Jakaya Kikwete offered training for Somali military troops, a country which has had no official army since the fall of strongman Siad Barre.
The forthcoming programme would attract troops loyal to Somalia`s transitional government led by President Abdullahi Yusuph.
