Seminar to train financial management

The Ministry of Finance has organized a seminar to train key stakeholders in public sector on financial management skills and knowledge in order to eradicate misappropriation of public funds.
Briefing journalists in Dar es Salaam yesterday, Treasury Registrar, Agnes Bukuku, said the seminar would involve all key players including the ministry`s permanent secretaries and chief executives.
She further mentioned board chairpersons, directors and parliamentary committees, among others.
``This will be one of the most extraordinary seminars. It will involve all key players in public companies, service providers and institutions.
Our goal is to equip them with skills applicable to the current reforms in public services,`` she said.
``We would also like to alert them to work in accordance with public demand,`` Bukuku said.
Bukuku further said, ``We want to know their challenges so that we can improve efficiency.``
The seminar`s endeavour is to minimize loopholes over the misappropriation of public funds, a phenomenon said to have gained footage in the public sector.
``Sometimes it`s because key stakeholders are unaware of their responsibilities on the best ways to deliver services to the public,`` she noted.
The seminar would include five important topics such as Efficiency and New Public Service Rules.
Others are Regulations and Financial Accountability in Public Institutions.
More than 400 key stakeholders from the public sector will attend the seminar.
Finance Minister Zakia Meghji, Chief Secretary Philemon Luhanjo are among the top government officials expected to grace the seminar.
