By Guardian Reporter

The Tanzania Revenue Authority has said 99 per cent of its revenue is paid through banks and only 1 per cent over the counter, while all tax payments to its Large Taxpayers Department are made through banks.

This is according to the department`s commissioner, Patrick Kassera, who was clarifying recent media reports suggesting to the contrary.

He also reacted to reports that TRA had surpassed a nine-month target by collecting 869bn/- against a projected 805bn.

The revenue collection target and the actual collections referred to by the media referred only to his department, the commissioner pointed out.

He added that it is that same department, and not the authority as a whole, that has been issued with ISO certificate 9001:2000.
