Time refugees went home - JK

2007-05-26 09:58:12
By Special Correspondent, Kasulu

President Kikwete has expressed his disappointment with the unruly behaviour of a section of refugees. He was addressing a public rally in Kasulu yesterday.

``It is not today when we started sheltering refugees. But the refugees we have at the moment are another breed altogether.

They are coming in with dangerous weapons. They are killing people and committing robbery. We have tolerated this behaviour for quite a long time,`` he said.

President Jakaya Kikwete said he would like to see the pace of repatriation of Burundian and DR Congo refugees increased.

He called upon the exiles to return home because the security situation in their countries was now stable.

Kikwete was on his third day of inspecting development projects in Kigoma Region.

``We have embarked upon the exercise of repatriating refugees. It is going on well. However, we plead to Burundian refugees to be enthusiastic about going back home because peace has been restored, ``he said.
