By Simon Nkongolo

Coach Marcos Tinoco has dropped five players from his squad which is preparing for the Council of East and Central Africa Football Association (Cecafa) Under-17 championship.

The players are Gatho Sanga, Razak Mhanga, Abdallah Said, Lazaro Msafiri and Humud Salum.

The inaugural youth championship will start on August 18-27 in Bujumbura, Burundi.

The coach said that the players were axed because of their poor performances.

He said the Mainland team would leave for Burundi two days before the kick off day.

Tanzania Mainland is in Group A alongside Rwanda, Somalia and hosts Burundi. Teams in Group B are Zanzibar, Uganda and Kenya.

The championship has been sponsored by President Jakaya Kikwete with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) contributing funds towards the inaugural event.
