Multichoice Tanzania has pledged 1.3m/ for Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) to support the youth team.

South African Super Sport presenter Thomas Mlambo, who is in the country for a four-day tour, said yesterday the sum would be given to TFF chairman Leodegar Tenga today.

The celebrated presenter said the amount would help the team prepare well for the Cecafa Youth Championship, Kikwete Cup.

The team will be among seven African countries which will take part in the inaugural junior soccer tournament scheduled for Burundi.

Tanzania Mainland has been drawn in Group A alongside Rwanda, Somalia and hosts Burundi for the inaugural Under 17 soccer championships scheduled for August 18-27 in Bujumbura, Burundi.

Teams in Group B are Zanzibar, Uganda and Kenya.

The tournament has been sponsored by President Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) contributing funds towards the inaugural event.
