Dar es Salaam Young Africans have emerged victorious as Tusker soccer tournament championships, after defeating Mtibwa Sugar of Manungu, Morogoro 1-0.
The Jangwani Street boys were awarded the title at the climax of the final match held at CCM Kirumba here yesterday.
It is the first time they have shot to the helm of soccer supremacy since the tournament was introduced six years ago.
Yanga who were all out to win the match right from start launched a series of onslaught attacks marshaled by striker Thomas Maurice recorded the lone score in the 47th minute.
The thunderbolt he unleashed after collecting a pass from Mrisho Ngassa went straight into the net.
Yanga made their way to the finals after recording a series of victories right from the preliminaries.
The title however is a relief to the Jangwani boys who last month were dethroned from Mainland championship by their archrivals Simba in the TFF mini league through penalty shoot out.
The victory confirmed chairman Iman Madega`s remarks that they would win the title as long as their rivals Simba had withdrawn allegedly in demand of more payment.
Yet, Mtibwa who this year were beaten by Yanga four times starting from the mini-league at Arusha where they conceded 3-2, 2-1 and finally in the Tusker tournament could hardly make a debut.
Mtibwa entered the finals for the second time but failed to clinch the title after they were eliminated by Simba who won the trophy for three consecutive years before they were dethroned by Kagera Sugar, last year.
Yanga`s assistant coach, Razak Siwa who took over from Serbian national Milutin Sredojevic `Micho` said that was the beginning of the club`s triumph.
But Mtibwa Sugar’s coach, Abdallah Kibadeni `King`, said they objected the decision right from the beginning of the match officiated by Tanzanian referees because fairness would not prevail.
