Abounding fears that envisaged creation of East African Federation will be detrimental to the prosperity of the three states are groundless and uncalled for, a seasoned politician-cum-trade unionist has said.
Alfred Tandau is strongly in support of fast tracking the establishment of the federation, advising: `We should not lose this golden opportunity when our countries are at peace. The three countries should make maximum use of this peaceful period.`
The former Secretary General of Tanganyika Federation of Labour, and later cabinet minister during the era of the East African Community (EAC) told The Guardian on Sunday that the disparity in education is invalid as Tanzania turns produces between 7,000 and 8,000 university graduates yearly, a number which will double or treble in the coming five years.
`I discount unfounded fears that Tanzania will be overshadowed by experts from the neighbouring countries because the principle of `ratios` will be applied in the allocation of experts to the three countries, and hence no reason for fear of the unknown,` explained Ambassador Tandau, adding that many countries have praised Tanzania for its stability, political stance and forward looking vision.
