Housing shortage bites deep

2007-08-12 10:39:47
By Ally Hengo, PST, Kisarawe

Visegese Primary School teachers in Kisarawe District, Coast Region, are forced to share a house due to shortage of staff quarters.

One of the teachers, Ridhiki Athumani, told PST he had been sharing the house with five colleagues, including a female.

Worse enough, the house which was meant for the school head-teacher, has no toilet.

The headteacher decided to host his colleagues as there were no houses for rent in the village.

Under the MMEM project, the school was granted 3.6m/- by the government for construction of one classroom, an amount said to be insufficient.

But the villagers rejected to support the government`s efforts.

Nevertheless, the project was luckily completed when the school teachers chipped in with support that facilitated construction of the classroom.
