The Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism has revealed that it faces a shortage of 3, 025 staff in the Wildlife and Forestry departments.
The revelations were made by the Deputy Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism, Zabein Mhita in Parliament here yesterday while responding to a question by Mgana Msindai (Iramba East, CCM).
Msindai had wanted to know the steps taken by the government in view of the fact that many forestry and wildlife departments’ staff were expected to retire and there would be shortage of the same in fighting against poachers.
Mhita replied that the Wildlife Management Authority (WMA) has a shortage of 2,771 staff as currently it has 1, 171 staff, and that in order to work effectively; 3,943 workers were needed.
She said that the ministry was intending in the 2007/08 financial year to recruit a total of 60 people.
