Tanzania is among eight countries that have been selected for the `One UN` pilot initiative which aims at increasing efficiency and effectiveness of member countries.

Other countries are Cape Verde, Mozambique, Rwanda, Albania, Pakistan, Uruguay and Vietnam.

Speaking at a press conference in Dar es Salaam over the weekend, Treasury permanent secretary Gray Mgonja said the selection of Tanzania to the pilot initiative was on account of the good track record in its implementation of fundamental reforms which were in line with the envisaged One UN changes.

Mgonja cited some of the fundamental reforms as implementation of the National Strategy for Growth and Reduction of Poverty, Tanzania Assistance Strategy, Framework for Guiding Development Cooperation, Harmonisation and Alignment of Donor Support, Joint Assistance Strategy for Tanzania, as well as Promoting National Ownership and Leadership.

`These reforms placed Tanzania in a strong position for piloting the concept of One UN,` he said.

Mgonja explained that the concept of One UN at the country level was central to the reform initiative.
