The Economic and Social Research Foundation (ESRF) in collaboration with the International Fellowships Programme (IFP) of the US-based Ford Foundation has endorsed sixteen people for scholarship awards to pursue further studies at graduate and doctoral levels.

ESRF Executive Director Dr Bohela Lunogelo told journalists in Dar es Salaam yesterday that the sixteen won the awards out of a total of 500 candidates who had applied for the scholarship.

`Unfortunately we only needed sixteen candidates because our budget is limited,`he said.

Dr Lunogelo said the minimum qualification for entrance was a first degree, three years working experience and a lower second pass mark or above in the first degree.

He said the winners would undergo a computer training course to prepare themselves for the course.

`Computer knowledge is a prerequisite for university studies, especially in developed world,` he said.

Lunogelo said that the selected students would undergo English international standard tests, which is also one of the requirements for third world students attending universities in the US and Europe.
