An appeal has been made for people to come forward and help orphans and needy children to alleviate their suffering.

The call was made in Dar es Salaam yesterday by Nafisa Malik, the Lions Club of Dar es Salaam Central President when she was delivering food items worth 1.6m/- to the New Life Orphan Home based at Magomeni in Dar es Salaam.

She said it was a moral obligation for the people to help the needy, particularly orphans who are being cared at the Centre to make them feel they are cared for by the community.

Nafisa stressed that she feels pity when people neglect the needy children without considering that they were human beings also in need of good life in this world.

`We can curb the menace of street children and homeless children if we all work tirelessly to alleviate the suffering of our fellow human beings, particularly serving the hungry children,` she said.

She said the donation was made possible through the support of Lion Club members, Funky Orbit and well wishers.

Her Club would continue supporting Orphanage Centres in the Dar es Salaam and elsewhere in the country to carry out their normal routine of serving poor children with no parents to enable them grow up and maintain their normal life.

Speaking on the occasion, Mwanaidi Magambo, the New Life Orphan Home Director said she was deeply touched by the support she received from Lions Club members and other donors.

`It is our responsibility to ensure that these children are maintained to become good future citizens,` she noted.
She appealed to other donors to come forward and assist the helpless.
