The late Sheikh Nurdin Hussein Shaadhily (85), who passed away in Dar es Salaam on Saturday, will be buried today at Kilwa Kisiwani in Lindi.

His body was due to be flown yesterday at Kilwa after prayers at the Ulipo Mosque in Kariakoo.

A family spokesperson Omari Mkwawa told the Guardian yesterday that the late Sheikh had been suffering from a fractured pelvic girdle after he fell in the bathroom.

Mkwawa said the deceased was operated on at the Muhimbili National Hospital in February this year and was later sent to India for another operation three months later.

He was once again operated on after doctors found that his knees had been severely damaged.

The late Sheikh was born in May 1922 at Kilwa Kisiwani. He acquired his education from a number of colleges including Adhihal Sharif in Egypt.

The deceased was once a president of the Institute of Islamic training in Africa and until his death was a chairperson of an agency dealing with Hijah pilgrimage to Mecca.

The late sheikh was also one of the founding members of the Tanzania Muslim Council (BAKWATA).

He is survived by three widows and twenty four children.
