Makongo High School soccer team yesterday qualified for the semi finals in the ongoing East and Central Africa Secondary School Games after defeating Kakamega High School of Kenya 1-0.

Lugano Jonathan Mwangama scored the sole goal through a penalty.

Makongo also beat Masaka of Uganda 1-0 in their first match.

The Dar es Salaam-based school was yesterday expected to play St Mary`s Kitende of Uganda in a formality game.

Makongo won the regional title in 2005. They finished fifth in last year`s tourney.

Meanwhile, Kange Secondary School of Tanga have been banned for three years from competing in the tourney for beating a referee.

The Tanga team hit referee Rajab Ali when they played Masaka.

The Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSSA) Patron, Enos Oyaya, said that fights can be a reason for a team to be disqualified in the games.
