Stars, Cranes meet as new stadium opens

The 60,000-seater ultra-modern sports complex will be launched this evening with a build-up match pitting Tanzania`s Taifa Stars and Uganda Cranes.

Fans will not only go to watch the match, but also to see how a Chinese construction firm built the Fifa-standard stadium.

Both teams will also use the game to prepare for their 2008 African Cup of Nations last qualifying matches.

Taifa Stars will play Mozambique in the Group Seven, return leg on September 8 in the same stadium while Uganda will host Niger on the same day in Kampala.

Stars have been training in Europe for three weeks where they played a number of friendlies in Switzerland and Denmark.

Coach Marcio Maximo promised that his team will beat the Ugandan side.

The gate charges are 30,000/- each at VIP `A` while VIP `B` and VIP `C` will be charged at 20,000/- and 15,000/- respectively.

The fans who will sit at Category `D` will pay 10,000/- while Categories `E` and `F` will be charged 5,000/-. Fans who will sit on Category `G` will pay 3,000/-.
