Members of the Tanzania Agricultural and Livestock Organization, TASO, Northern zone have requested government intervention to verify accounts of the association accrued through collections during exhibitions.
The appeal resulted from alleged uncontrolled expenditures that remained unchecked for seventeen years, the situation that has started to create tension among members, some currently demanding convincing explanation for corrective measures.
Enraged TASO members, who granted interview to PST, said they wanted the government to step in to avert chaos and tension that has started to build up at the exhibition grounds in Arusha.
The members, Dr. Sammy Mbando, Twaha Ndemela, Godi Mushi and Alex Slaa accused TASO leaders of causing all sorts of confusion alleging that they did all they could to shut down a number of pavilions and refused to give audited accounts on expenditures.
Ndemela said it was disappointing to learn that TASO leaders in the area signed binding contracts with strangers without seeking consent of the members and sold plots contrary to the regulations.
``We ask the minister for Agriculture and Cooperatives to deploy a probe team to dig out the cause of the deadlock that has paralysed activities at the ground that has been turned into personal investment,`` Dr. Mbando said.
Mushi wanted the dispute resolved amicably such that members should be informed about the expenditure, inclusion of members to general meeting to discuss their welfare, and reassess the integrity of TASO general secretary, Northern zone, Peter Ngasa.
For his part, TASO secretary Peter Ngasa denied allegations that the financial report had remained a secret for 17 years, adding that a few members uncomfortable with the association`s leadership were causing the confusion.
When required to unveil this year`s collections, Ngasa refused, claiming that he was not ready to give the accounts through a telephone interview.
``If you need more details come to the office. Those complaining now are members unwilling to clear their bills and move around to divert the subject at hand as we press them hard to pay their due revenue,`` Ngasa clarified.
