UK has been a leading country for ten consecutive years in terms of investment in Tanzania, which amounts to USD 1.1bn, the Executive Director of Tanzania Investment Center (TIC), Emmanuel Ole Naiko, has said.

Talking to reporters in Dar es Salaam yesterday, Ole Naiko said Kenya ranked second with an investment capital of USD 800m, followed by India with USD 600m.

He mentioned others as South Africa and China, both summing USD 400 million respectively.

``People from 70 countries have invested in Tanzania. More investors are willing to come due to the existing friendly environment. Tanzania is one of the best countries in terms of investment environment in the Sub Saharan Africa,`` Ole Naiko said.

He said establishment of regional business councils across the country had leveled the investment climate.

Ole Naiko urged Tanzanians in the Diaspora to come back in the country and invest.

He said for a number of years, Tanzanians living in the Diaspora have been fearing to bring their investments due to inadequate information on the viabilities of the country.

``We are currently in touch with our overseas embassies. We will conduct a seminar in London by April next year so as to avail them with information about Tanzania,`` he said.

He added: ``The seminar will involve Tanzanians living in UK and neighbouring countries.

We believe the move will help attract more Tanzanians who wish to invest home.``

He said a few Tanzanians communicating with TIC had shown interest to invest in various sectors.

TIC will mark its tenth anniversary on September 13th this year.
Prime Minister Edward Lowassa will grace the event.

The organization is planning to organize a number of activities, including seminars, workshops, football competitions and charity work.

This year`s theme is: `Investors` Targeting.` Its goal is to attract more investors to come and invest in Tanzania.

Tanzania has plenty of untapped resources in the region, Ole Naiko said.
