The President of the International Network for Quality Assurance Agencies in Higher Education (INQAAHE) International Dr David Woodhouse has called for global initiatives to ensure developing countries get quality assurance support in higher education.

Dr Woodhouse made the call when he presented a paper on ``Emerging Issues in Quality Assurance in Higher Education: Perspectives of INQAAHE``at the start of a three - day international forum in Dar es Salaam yesterday.

``There is a great deal of expertise in quality assurance around the world. The challenge is to make it available and affordable to the recipient of the assistance where there is a need,`` he said.

He underlined the need for the international community to be pro developing countries as a fairly common pattern of INQAAHE, adding that there was a need to be assiduous in capacity building and quality measurement.

``This would enable us measure our higher learning institutions performing well,`` he said.

Commenting on prevalence of ``fake`` degrees and other documents from un-registered institutions, the Vice Chancellor for the Open University of Tanzania (OUT), Prof. Tolly Mbwette called for concerted efforts to solve the problem.

He said: ``It is possible to control mal-practice of those who pose as registered sound higher academic institutions while in actual fact there are not.``

Prof. Mbwette said there was a need to forge alliance with electronic and media house owners to avoid entertaining adverts of non registered higher education institutions to eradicate fake degrees and diplomas.

The three day event is organized under the auspices of the United Nations Education Scientific and Culture Organizations (UNESCO) in collaboration with the Open University of Tanzania (OUT).
