The first winner of the Tigo cellular phone company`s `Get Rich` promotion received his prize yesterday in Dar es Salaam.
Narender Singh emerged the winner of 3m/- after he was selected as the highest wallet holder with 20m/- in his pocket.
Speaking during a press conference in Dar es Salaam yesterday, Narender Singh said that he was surprised to receive a call from Tigo telling him that he had won.
`Prior to winning, I had taken part in the draw for a number of times. I did not expect to emerge the highest pocket holder,` Singh said.
A number of winners also received their prizes yesterday.
Among them were Mohamed Shaibu and Yusuf Rajab who scooped 90,000/- each, while as Yasmin Seleman received 30,000/-.
Speaking during the conference, the Tigo Marketing Manager Kelvin Twissa said that the promotion is open to all Tigo subscribers.
`I would like to encourage Tigo winners to send more entries so that they can increase their winning chances,` said Twisa.
He said that every week there will be a draw whereby three customers will each win up to 1m/- in cash or the amount in their Tigo wallet.
Tigo subscribers are supposed to send SMS with the word `Rich` or `Tajirika` to number 15713. Tigo adds 10,000/- into their Tigo wallet for every SMS sent by a customer,` said Twisa
`At the end of the week the person with the highest amount in their wallet automatically becomes the win of 3m/-,` Twisa added.
He said there will be a draw in every week in which each of the 3 customers will win up to 1m/- in cash or the amount in their Tigo wallet.
He said: `If the person has less than 1m/- in their Tigo account, they will win what is in their wallet.
At the end of every month, the person with the highest wallet will automatically win 10m/-,` said Twissa.
`There will also be 3 draws in which customers can win up to 10m/- or the amount in their wallet,` he said, adding that `subscribers can only win once per prize category throughout the competition.`
`Tigo customers and subscribers are only eligible to win prizes in the weekly or monthly draws once,` he concluded.
