Dar es Salaam regional authorities have so far collected 12.7m/- from individuals and institutions as contributions for the construction of 822 classrooms for Form One students in 2008 intake.
Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner Abbas Kandoro told reporters in the city yesterday while receiving cheques worth 11m/- from Tanzania Institute of Education (TIE) director Dr. Paul Mushi and Zamco Communication Ltd managing director Zahor Matelephone.
The RC said Dar es Salaam residents had been mobilized to contribute funds to enable the construction of classrooms for students who would be selected to join secondary school education next year.
He said the construction would kick off with immediate effect.

On his part, Matelephone urged Dar es Salaam residents to take the issue seriously, saying it was like giving alms and God would increase the donations even more.
He said education for students was not only their life but also an inheritance.
``Education is the only solution for a better life. I call upon young people to contribute for the life of our young sisters and brothers who need assistance from us. Don`t let us; down this is for the betterment of our country,``he said.
Meanwhile, Dr. Mushi said the contribution was just a beginning, adding that his institution would continue contributing to enable every student who passed to go to secondary school in January next year.
He said the government needed more professionals from different fields to bring about development in the country and thus eradicate poverty.
