Dar es Salaam regional authorities have so far collected 43.7 m/- from individuals and institutions for the construction of 822 classrooms to admit Form One students in the next year intake.
The sum was revealed by the Acting Regional Commissioner, Lt. Abdallah Kihato while speaking to journalists in the city on Wednesday as he received cheques for 40.37m/- contributed by Ilala Municipality public servants, 850,000/- by the President`s Office public servants college at Magogoni, and 2.44m by workers of the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Marketing.
`Ilala teachers have contributed 28m/- out of the 40.4m/-. They have shown the way after challenging the move earlier and we applaud them for their contributions,` said Lt Kilato.
Kihato said it was encouraging to see Dar es Salaam residents taking the issue seriously; and commended other regions for joining hands with city residents.
He called upon public servants, departments, associations, government agents, Kinondoni and Temeke Municipalities to emulate a generous heart to support the schools` construction.
The contributions come in the wake of Dar es salaam Regional Commissioner`s appeal last month for contributions from well-wishers for the construction of classrooms for Form One students next year.
