Man imprisoned for 30 years for raping, impregnating schoolgirl

A resident of Isevya in Tabora municipality, Frank Wilson (32), has been sentenced to a 30-year jail term for raping and impregnating a schoolgirl.
Delivering sentence on Friday Tabora Resident Magistrate Patrick Maligana said he had been satisfied with the evidence presented in court by the prosecution and hence the accused deserved the sentence.
He also noted that the sentence would serve as a lesson to those inclined to make love to schoolgirls, thus hampering government efforts to provide education for all children.
The prosecution, led by Assistant Inspector of Police Bety Kimaro, told the court that on the morning of January 25, this year, the accused committed the offence at Burdani guest-house in Ipuli area in the municipality.
Elaborating, she said the accused raped the 17-year-old girl, a Form Two student at New Era Secondary School in the municipality, and put her in the family way.
Kimaro further said upon learning that he had made her pregnant, the accused devised a plan to assist the girl to undergo an abortion.
It was in the process of aborting the pregnancy that the accused was arrested.
