The Surface and Marine Transport Regulatory Authority (Sumatra) plans to hold a meeting to discuss transport problems in Dar es Salaam and other cities in the country mid this month.

A statement released yesterday in Dar es Salaam by the authority’s Public Affairs Department said the meeting would discuss the findings of a study carried by the National Institute of Transport (NIT) and to seek views on possible solutions to students’ transport problem as part of Sumatra\'s obligations.

The findings of the study would have great impact on the people and will be a useful source of information for developing short, medium and long terms solutions to the problems identified.

According to the press statement, the meeting would bring together key stakeholders in the transport sector which includes relevant government ministries, academicians and the general public.

Sumatra was also planning to organise another meeting to discuss ways to curb road accidents in Tanzania Mainland next Wednesday.

The meeting would among other things discuss the study findings on road accidents which had been conducted by the Bureau for Industrial Cooperation (BICO) of the University of Dar es Salaam, to obtain views on possible solutions identified by them.
It will bring together traffic police, transport operators and the general public.
