It has been said that effective use of information technology will positively contribute to the government`s move to aleviate poverty in the country.
Speaking to reporters in Dar es Salaam recently a Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology ICT expert, Dr. Richard Masika said: `There is nothing we can do in the ongoing fight against poverty if we can`t make ICT effective.`
He said Tanzania needed to use all possible tools including ICT in lessening poverty levels.
`It`s high time Tanzania empowered its people in all sectors with ICT. This will contribute towards poverty eradication,` he said.
He added: `That is why DIT and the Swedish Royal Institute of Technology have decided to organise an international ICT symposium known as Open Access.`
According to Dr. Masika, the symposium was expected to deploy about 120 ICT local and international resource persons.
Vice President Dr. Ali Mohamed Shein would grace the official opening of the rare two-day international ICT symposium scheduled to kick-off next Thursday.
The symposium is aimed at mobilising, easing and making ICT services available to all.
`Our mission is to remove boundaries in ICT,` he said.
David Sawe, of the President’s Office, Civil Service Department, said among other issues, the participants would be able to discuss leadership development skills, ICT infrastructure, mobile applications and ICT with business, research and educational network and policy and social implications.
`The discussion will dwell on how mobile technology can help people to step up from the poverty line,` he added.
