Parents have been urged to support teachers in helping their children succeed academically.

Speaking to parents on `Fun Day` at Bright Hope School in Dar es Salaam at the weekend, Kinondoni municipal mayor Salum Londa said parents had a crucial role to play in their children`s school performance.

`In order to have a prosperous country with a stable economy the nation needs to have a literate population.

That`s why the Dar es Salaam City authorities have come up with the project to contribute to the constructiof more than 822 secondary school classrooms by January, next year,` he added

He urged members of the public to always strive to improve their educational standards.

On her part, the director of Bright Hope School, Anna Pallangyo, urged parents to make a daily check-up of their children`s performance if they expect them to do well in class.

She said both teachers and parents had to understand their children`s weaknesses if they wanted them to succeed.
