WILDAF Tanzania, in collaboration with its network members and other partners, is to launch a sixteen-day campaign against gender violence in the country.
This was confirmed in an interview with this paper yesterday by WiLDAF national coordinator Judith Odunga, who said the campaign would kick off today with a rally that aimed at reinforcing the advancement of human rights and ending violence against women.
`WiLDAF Tanzania, with network members and other partners, has planned to carry out various activities aimed at creating public awareness through the media and other means of communication,` she noted.
She said the theme of the sixteen-day activism for this year, which is observed internationally, would be: `Demanding Implementation, Challenging Obstacles: End Violence against Women.`
She said her organisation, network members, human rights NGOs and other stakeholders, would start the campaign with a demonstration from WiLDAF`s former office situated at SIDO Building on Bibi Titi Mohamed Street through Ali Hassan Mwinyi Road, Ohio Street, Samora Avenue to Karimjee Hall where the demonstration would be received by the guest of honour.
She said during the day several papers would be presented, including a paper on the `Implementation of Maputo Protocol and Enactment of Domestic Violence Act.
According to her, on the same day legal aid clinics from various NGOs would provide legal aid to vulnerable groups at places already arranged for the occasion.
`From November 28 to December 10, 2007, legal aid providers will visit and provide legal aid to vulnerable groups including women in areas outside Dar es Salaam city centre,` Odunga noted.
The mobile legal aid clinic would visit all the three districts of Dar es Salaam Region.
