Over 150 scientists and engineers from Africa around the world today start a five-day international conference in Dar es Salaam to discuss the best use of natural materials for construction, diseases cure and multi-dimenstional scientific research.
According to incumbent president of a non-governmental organisation, African Materials Species Society, Professor Joseph Tesha, who is also head of the Department of Engineering Materials at the University of Dar es Salaam, the conference will attract participants from the USA, Europe, Asia and Africa.
It is the fourth such conference to be held in Africa. The first three were held in South Africa (2002), Senegal (2003) and Morocco in (2005).
``What we have within the African Materials Species Society is a collection of scientists and engineers who work on materials species for roads construction, house building, road construction, car making and various types of medicines or whatever doctors use in hospitals to ensure that wounds heal,`` he said.
He said the conference would be characterised by paper presentations on scientific findings on various topics, including artificial bone tissues for healing patients with broken parts of the body such as legs.
The particpants, who are specialists in various fields, will focus on the deployment of natural and man-made materials for road consutruction, house building, car making, medicine manufacture and the like for best harnessing with a view to improving health and other socio-economic development andeavours.
Professor Tesha said there will, for instance participants who will talk on biological micro-electronical mechanical materials - very small units that can be inserted into the body of a human being for strategic cure of a disease be it cancer or other illness.
