Five political parties yesterday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for political partnership under the name of Patriotic-Front Parties (PFP).
The parties to PFP are Democratic Party (DP), Sauti ya Umma (SAU), National League for Democracy (NLD), Demokrasia Makini and PPT-Maendeleo.
Hamisi Hamadi, Paul Kyara, Emanuel Makaidi, Leonard Shao and Georgia Mtikila signed the MoU on behalf of their parties - SAU, PPT Maendeleo, DP, NLD and Demokrasia Makini respectively.
Speaking during the signing ceremony in Dar es Salaam yesterday, NLD Chairman who is also the interim Chairman of the PFP, Emanuel Makaidi advanced three reasons that have led to the formation of the partnership.
He said the reasons include resemblance of the party policies, which advocate social democracy, a situation that would enable them work together harmoniously.
Other reasons, Makaidi said, are that, the `partnership` parties have inclinations of what he called `West Wing` political approach which will help them work together to advocate capitalism.
He explained that there are indications that the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi is loosing course and its grip on power is likely to come to an end.
There is therefore urgent need to rescue the country from falling in the hands of another corrupt legacy.
Under the partnership, the parties will work closely on three broad areas - issues of national interest, participating on the equity sharing and distribution of country's resources; and making sure there is a legal environment that observes constitution and laws of the land.
The NLD Chairman used much of the time ridiculing the earlier political partnership by four political parties - Civic United Front (CUF), Chama Cha Demokrasia na Maendeleo (CHADEMA), Tanzania Labour Party (TLP) and NCCR Mageuzi - as a mere CCM `B` camp.
``CCM legacy is approaching an end and there is therefore immediate need to replace it. We have deemed it fit to ensure the country and its people do not fall in the hands of another corrupt government,`` he said, making reference to imply that the first partnership is simply a CCM `B` ploy.
DP Secretary General, Georgia Mtikila, also wife Rev.
Christopher Mtikila said during the ocassion that unlike in the other earlier political partnerships, their partnership will effectively operate beginning yesterday, after which a serious countrywide tour by its leaders would follow.
She said that the intention of the idea was to establish a single strong political party but as the current constitution does not favour parties to work as a single political entity.
Early this year, four political parties - Chadema, TLP, NCCR Mageuzi and CUF - formed a political partnership to enable them work closely in various political issues.
