DRC nationals charged with illegal possession of gemstones

Three people alleged to be DRC nationals were on Monday arraigned in the Kisutu resident Magistrate`s Court in Dar es Salaam charged with illegal possession of gemstones.
The accused, Abel Mega (54), Munderwa Mega (44) and Ismail Mbemba (55), were arraigned before Resident Magistrate Catherine Revocati.
Assistant Inspector of Police Edwin Boniface alleged in court that on December 12, this year, at Rola International Airport in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the accused were found and arrested by Sergeant Mwanzalima E1047 while in unlawful possesion of 10kg of gemstones for which they had no valid dealership licence.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge and the case comes up for mention on January 2, next year.
Meanwhile, before Resident Magistrate Catherine Revocati in the same court, a resident of Dar es Salaam, Ramadhani Ndumbo (20), was arraigned charged with breaking into a shop.
Assistant Inspector of Police Edwin Boniface alleged in court that on December 3, this year, at Mkwajuni area in the city, the accused did break into the shop of one Hamis Omary and stole therefrom a radio, Konyangi and Reds brands of beverages all valued at 425,000/-, the property of Hamis Omary.
The acccused pleaded not guilty and the case comes up for another mention January 2, next year.
