The Dar es Salaam Water and Sewerage Company (DAWASCO) has announced that it will resume its disconnection campaign on January 3, next year.

Dawasco public relations manager Badra Masoud said in Dar es Salaam on Monday that the second disconnection phase will cover, among other areas, Regent Estate, Ada Estate, Mikocheni, Kijitonyama and Mwenge.

She said the campaign would mainly target customers who do not pay their water bills timely without disturbing honest ones.

She said to ensure the exercise went on smoothly, Dawasco would disconnect supply lines from the main pipes in particularly notorious areas, with timely payers left untouched by being served with water trucks that would move from house to house.

Masoud, however, said there had been a good response in settling accumulated water bills from customers in Mbezi Beach area, although there was poor response from Msasani Peninsula clients.

Masoud called on residents from other city areas to take the ongoing exercise as a lesson by ensuring that they paid their water bills in time to avoid inconveniences.

She urged members of the public to cultivate a culture of paying bills in time for services rendered by other public utilities as by doing so they would help make the service available and sustainable.

Earlier this year, Dawasco mounted a debt collection campaign for acumulated water bills amounting to 1bn/-.

Customers from the city`s two high-class areas of Mbezi Beach and Msasani Peninsula were said to be leading in water bill arrears.
