A team of election observers from the East African Community initially assigned with the duty of monitoring the election process in Kenya have finalised a comprehensive report due to be submitted to the EAC secretariat based in Nairobi.
Through a telephone interview from the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, the Speaker of the East African Legislative Assembly, Abdulrahim Haithar, informed PST that he was confident the 14-strong team that closely monitored the whole process would come up with an all-inclusive report.
``The team was on the ground a week before election day under the chairmanship of Michael Sebalu from Uganda. Part of the report would give details on all that transpired before and after the election and basically the vote counting and announcement of the results, the exercise marred by violence,`` Haithar clarified.
He said the EAC secretariat would unveil the report to the public pending completion of the final details shortly.
Meanwhile, the immigration department in Arusha Region has heightened security across the Namanga border and the numerous panya routes to seal off infiltration of illegal immigrants.
However, Arusha regional Immigration Officer, Justin Kabigumira made it clear that the government has no intention to close the border.
Since announcement of the presidential polls in Kenya that declared President Mwai Kibaki the winner scenes of violence and skirmishes were reported across that country.
The opposition members are totally convinced that their presidential candidate Raila Odinga won the election.
Since then some of the transporters usually plying between Dar es Salaam and Mwanza and Kampala through Nairobi have suspended the service following reports that Uganda had closed its border with Kenya.
