An Open University of Tanzania (OUT) Kiswahili lecturer Professor Zakaria Mochiwa will be buried today at his home village in Handeni District, Tanga Region.

``After last respects at his Makumbusho residence his body will be taken to Handeni today (yesterday) and tomorrow (today) at around 4 pm he will be buried there,`` he said.

He said Professor Mochiwa`s death has left a big gap at the university as he (late Professor Mochiwa) was a competent lecturer and linguist in the university's Kiswahili Department.

``He had a lot of experience in Kiswahili and was a person who considered Kiswahili a language to be given priority in today's era,`` said Memba.

Professor Mochiwa died last Friday morning at the university`s hospital at Kinondoni in the city.

According to his grandson, Mhina Francis, the late Professor Mochiwa was suffering from diabetes and stroke that left him paralysed.

He is survived by a widow and four children.
