Political science and sociology students at the University of Dar es Salaam have condemned Israel`s attacks on Palestine which have so far claimed at least 17 lives.
Dar es Salaam University Political Science Association (Dupsa) chairman Mwakasege Benjamin told journalists in Dar es Salaam yesterday that attacks on innocent Palestinian women and children by Israel on Tuesday this week that killed 17 people and seriously injured 50 others should be condemned by all peace-loving people.
The attack happened just a day after Israel and Palestine had been in peace talks.
``We condemn Israeli attacks on Palestine because most of the people killed or affected are women and children,`` he said.
Benjamin said they strongly supported efforts in search of a solution to end the crisis in the Middle East, which had prevailed for the last 60 years with no permanent solution in sight.
He said students condemn the use of excessive power by the Israeli army on Palestine.
Benjamin said as a result of Israel`s excessive power on Palestinians more than 800 people, among them children, had been killed in the Gaza Strip since 2006.
He said that kind of brutality confirmed to the world how some countries could choose to violate children’s right to life with impunity.
``We condemn the suffering that Israel is causing to Palestinian people. This is not only violation of human rights but also of international law,`` he said.
A sociology student, Simkoko Jacob, said that students will condemn violation of human rights in Africa and outside the continent.
