Kenyan paper apologises to PM Lowassa

The `Sunday Standard` newspaper of Kenya has apologised to Prime Minister Edward Lowassa for an article which appeared last year linking him with corruption allegations.

A press statement issued yesterday by the PMs Office said the newspaper had established that the allegations contained in the article were not substantiated.

``The Sunday Standard` wishes to unreservedly apologise to the Prime Minister for any embarrassment caused to him by the said allegations,`` the statement quoted the paper as saying.

The apology follows a letter by a lawyer representing Lowassa to the editor of `The Sunday Standard` demanding ``unconditional, unequivocal retraction of the libelous article and an apology``.
