Two soldiers from Mgulani camp in Dar es Salaam, Shahibu Shabani and Mkanadau, appeared before Magistrate Mwanaisha Chande of the Ilala District Magistrate`s Court on Friday charged with armed robbery.

Prosecutor Musa Gumbo alleged in court that the accused committed the offence on January 9, this year, at Mchikichini Bondeni in the city.

It was alleged that on the material day the accused stole one bed, a generator, sofa set, sponge mattress, small table, wrist watch, electronic iron, one handbag and other household items, all worth 642,000/-, property of one Ali Mohamed.

Gumbo said the accused beat up Mohamed before stealing the items.

The accused pleaded not guilty and the case comes up for mention on January 31, this year.

Meanwhile, two businessmen appeared before the same court charged with armed robbery.

Prosecutor Denis Mujumba named the accused as Michael Elias, a businessman and resident of Gongo la Mboto Mwisho, and Joseph Shabani of Mongo la Ndege in the city.

It was alleged that on November 14, last year, at Karakata in the city, the accused stole 1.7 m/ cash and five mobile phones valued at 1.8 m/, the property of Daniel Mbaga.

The accused are alleged to have threatened Mbaga by firing one bullet from a shotgun in the air.

The accused pleaded not guilty and the case comes up for mention on January 31, this year.
