Kibaha District Council chairman Saidi Pazi has said that some problems facing teachers working in remote areas can be solved if local communities are well informed and involved in various developmental projects.

Pazi made the remarks on Wednesday at Msongola Primary School at a function to hand over a teacher`s house built by Plan International in collaboration with the villagers.

He challenged school committees to involve local communities in development activities which are beneficial to their children.

He said the government had a budget for construction of teachers' houses, but if the surrounding communities joined hands with donors and well-wishers they could substantially improve the situation and attract more teachers to their areas.

He said the government had a comprehensive plan to ensure Msongola Primary School got electricity, alongside improving the infrastructure in its efforts to improve the working condition of teachers in the area.

``The community should understand that the responsibility of improving the working condition of teachers is not only the government's and other private stakeholders but also the community's as well,`` he said

Plan International (Tanzania) project manager Mwesigwa Selestine said his organisation had spent more than 250m/- to improve the learning environment at the school.

``The house handed over today is among three houses built by Plan International for teachers working at Msongola,`` he said.

He said the community contributed about 4m/- and Plan International 18m/- to enable completion of the house.
``The work has been easy because we highly cooperated with the people around the school,`` he said.

He said so far his organization had managed to hand over six classrooms, three houses for teachers, a pre-school building, teachers` office, latrines and other learning facilities.
