The Uhuru Torch hero, Lieutenant General Alexander Nyirenda, who is admitted to Muhimbili National Hospital and is suffering from throat and heart-related complications, will be flown abroad for further treatment.

According to his son, Foti Nyirenda, details on which country his father will be taken for treatment will be disclosed today.

``His doctor has told us that the old man will be referred abroad. Details of the trip will be released tomorrow (today),`` he said.

Lieutenant General Nyirenda has been admitted to Muhimbili National Hospital for more than two weeks now.

He was first admitted to the Tanzania Heart Institute Hospital in Dar es Salaam.

The government has offered to meet treatment costs within and outside the country for the retired army officer, who placed the Uhuru Torch on Mt. Kilimanjaro on the eve of Independence Day, December 9, 1961.
