Twenty-five journalists specialising in child-rights reporting are meeting in Dar es Salaam today to discuss how to report child sexual abuse incidents effectively for social change.

A statement issued yesterday by the Tanzania Media Women`s Association (TAMWA) said the workshop endeavours to discuss how best the media can expose the perpetrators of child sexual abuse and exploitation.

``Journalists will review stories covered by the print media during the past three months. They will also discuss findings of a review report of print media coverage on child abuse prepared in the past three months,`` read the statement in part.

Last year TAMWA conducted a similar workshop for journalists with a view to creating awareness on how best to report child abuse stories in which the participants learnt the professional code of conduct.

The code of conduct cautions journalists against publishing, broadcasting or taking pictures of child sexual abuse survivors.

TAMWA is working with other media women associations from Uganda, Kenya and Ethiopia to develop a regional code that will provide guidelines to journalists on how to report child sexual abuse stories objectively.
