Follow procedure, govt tells insurance claimants

By Angel Navuri, Dodoma

The government has no intention to cover up or deny people who died while in service their insurance claims as long as they follow established regulations.

The clarification was made in the National Assembly yesterday by Planning and Finance deputy minister Jeremiah Sumary when responding to a question by Sijapata Nkayamba (Special Seats) who demanded clarification from the government regarding unnecessary delays experienced in insurance payments for deceased relatives.

Sumary, who is new to the office and was responding to the question in the national Assembly for the first time, expressed disappointment for the delays, but cautioned that it was the responsibility of insurance agents to ensure that due payments were honoured.

``The company is supposed to work on the modalities to ensure timely payment so that the inheritor does not face any problem,`` he said.

He advised claimants to have at hand the relevant insurance certificate, death certificate and identities of the rightful inheritor to make sure that the inheritance was given to the right person.

``The inheritor will avoid problems if they follow the right procedure and provide relevant documents,`` he said.
